Our Adult Social Services and Housing Staff Training and
Development Centre is the lead for delivering multi-agency training
on the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the
Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards amendments.
The Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
training currently available is:
Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty
Safeguards e-learning - free awareness level training for
all relevant health and social care staff is available on the
Social Care page of the North Somerset Learning Pool. These courses
can be used as awareness level training, induction training, a
refresher course or pre-course learning for managers or
professional staff who will be attending the face-to-face courses
below.

Mental Capacity Act in Practice: two
half days - this course aims to provide the knowledge
needed of the Mental Capacity Act by managers, trainers and
professionals in health and social care settings where the
Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards do not apply
(such as where care or support is provided to a person in their own
home or in sheltered/supported housing) and opportunities to be
supported to apply their knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act to
their practice.
Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty
Safeguards in Practice: two full days - this course aims
to provide the knowledge needed of the Mental Capacity Act and the
Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards by managers, trainers and
professionals in health and social care settings where the
Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards do apply
(hospitals, hospices and care homes) and opportunities to be
supported to apply their knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and
the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards to their practice.
All face-to-face courses run regularly at Partnership House. All
Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards training
is chargeable under the North Somerset Council training charging
policy, unless prior arrangements have been made with the Training
Manager.

North Somerset Safeguarding Adults training data
gathering
All organisations that need their staff trained in Safeguarding
Adults are required by the North Somerset Safeguarding Adults
Partnership Board to respond to the Safeguarding Adults data
gathering process. This involves quarterly reporting of training
needs and delivery to inform the quarterly training report to the
Board. Details of Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty
Safeguards training needs and delivery are now included in this
process.
