Extended services provide a range of services
outside of school hours for primary and secondary school children,
their families and the local community.
By 2010 all schools will provide extended services which will
include:
- childcare such as breakfast clubs, after
school clubs and holiday clubs as well as links with
childminders
- a varied range of activities for your child
including study support, play, sport, drama and music, arts and
crafts, volunteering
- parenting and family support - for example
parenting skills, child behaviour management, information
sessions
- easy access to specialist help - schools work
closely local agencies to provide additional help to children and
young people when they need it
- community access - for example use of the
sports halls and computer suites
These services are part of the
Government's
Every Child Matters programme, which aims to improve the
well-being and opportunities of children and young people.
