Extended schools

Extended services provide a range of services outside of school hours for primary and secondary school children, their families and the local community.

By 2010 all schools will provide extended services which will include:

  • childcare such as breakfast clubs, after school clubs and holiday clubs as well as links with childminders
  • a varied range of activities for your child including study support, play, sport, drama and music, arts and crafts, volunteering
  • parenting and family support - for example parenting skills, child behaviour management, information sessions
  • easy access to specialist help - schools work closely local agencies to provide additional help to children and young people when they need it
  • community access - for example use of the sports halls and computer suites

These services are part of the Government's  Every Child Matters programme, which aims to improve the well-being and opportunities of children and young people.

More information about specific activities can be obtained by contacting the  school directly or by contacting the Family Information Service
