SEAL is recognised as playing a vital part in improving
outcomes for young people through developing social and emotional
skills, reducing barriers to learning and raising
attainment.
Our schools, at both primary and secondary phase, are working
towards SEAL as integral to the curriculum and underpinning school
ethos in order to positively promote changes in behaviour, support
inclusion and contribute to the raising of attainment in all
pupils.
The teaching of SEAL is a commitment to supporting emotional
health and wellbeing within the school and the wider
community. it is regarded as a universal provision supporting
all children and youngpeople and provides a strong base for a
healthy and successful school and key to school improvement.
Class teaching of skill sets using the SEAL resources and across
the wider curriculum is often supported with small group work using
the Silver SEAL/Targeted material. this provides an early
intervention for children who need additional support in developing
their social, emotional and behavioural skills and allows children
to:
- explore key issues in more depth
- practise new skills within a safe environment
- develop ways of relating to others
- feel safe and take risks
- be reflective
The Family SEAL programme offers parents an opportunity to share
quality time and enjoy activities with their child whilst
developing an understanding of the SEAL learning outcomes and how
they can support school and family life. The programme:
- reinforces knowledge and skills taught in school
- increases positive parental involvement in learning and the
school community
- supports parents/carers and children to make wise choices
- helps individual pupils'personal and academic development
supported by home
