Adoption support services

We support adoptive parents throughout the whole process and after adoption has taken place.

Caring for adopted children with complex needs is a lifelong commitment and we expect you will need to use our support services sometime during their childhood.

We are committed to helping families cope with their newfound responsibilities and our help can take many forms including:

  • SAFINS - (Supporting Adoptive Families In North Somerset) is an active and friendly support group for adopters, holding a regular calendar of events and activities throughout the year
  • Training - Provided before and after your approval for adoption and once a child is placed with you. It includes a series of workshops and access to a comprehensive training programme
  • Letterbox - For situations where it is part of an agreed plan we manage a letterbox service so adopters and children's birth families can exchange letters, photographs, cards and audio tapes.
  • CONSULT! - A service to help adopters deal with the mental health needs of their adopted children
  • ABCs - (Attachment and Behaviour Consultation and Support) is a North Somerset provision that offers a monthly drop-in group with a clinical psychologist and specialist social worker who offer support and advice
  • Babysitting service - A service for adopters whose children require babysitters because the families are unable to access support from within their own social network due to a child's special needs
  • Summer play scheme
