We are celebrating the commitment of our foster carers
by holding our 10th annual awards ceremony on Thursday (15
December).
The event, held at The Grove Restaurant at Weston College,
Weston-super-Mare will see long-service certificates presented to
foster carers who have been caring for between five and 25
years.
Our executive member for children and young people's
services, Cllr Jeremy Blatchford, and Cllr Ann Harley will present
the awards. The event will also be attended by the council's
assistant director of integrated services for children and young
people, Steve Tanner.
Cllr Blatchford said: "The event aims to recognise the
achievements of all of our foster carers, and the fact that we’ll
be presenting awards to more than 20 families is a testament to
their commitment.
"The thought of welcoming a child into your home can be daunting
at first, but the fact we’re able to celebrate carers who have been
fostering for up to 25 years shows how incredibly rewarding it can
be.
These awards are the least we can do to thank all of these
special people who have given their time to support children who
needed a new home."
Steve Tanner added: "At a time when the number of children in
care is at an all-time high, it’s more important than ever to thank
these exceptional foster carers who do exceptional things for young
people who have had difficult starts.
"We are always in need of more carers to help provide this
valuable and essential service, whether it’s for long-term
placements or weekend breaks, so we would urge anyone interested in
fostering to come forward."
