We are urging residents to make the most of a
potentially life saving scheme to help them live at home for
longer.
Carelink gives peace of mind to over 2000 North Somerset
residents who rely on it in case of emergency. It is a
monitored community alarm system and allows customers living at
home to get help at the touch of a button.
They can use the standard pendant or the new wrist watch to
summon assistance. It helps residents to live independently
and feel more secure about carrying on with tasks like gardening
and living life.
Carelink is a 24-hour monitored personal alarm system which
connects through people's telephone lines.
Anyone who needs help can press the button and be put through to
a fully trained operator in the contact centre. The operator can
hear and speak to people even if they are not near a telephone. If
help is needed, the operator will contact nominated carers or the
emergency services as appropriate.
In order to encourage more residents to take up the service,
North Somerset Council has removed the installation fee for the
scheme. The weekly charge for the service ranges from £1.76 a week
to £4.08 depending on personal circumstances.
Cllr Nigel Ashton, Leader of North Somerset and lead for adult
social care said Carelink was a fantastic scheme that ensured
people had a helping hand even if living alone.
"We would ask friends and families to see if they can think of
anyone that could benefit from this excellent facility which could
ultimately become a life line in the event of illness or a
fall.
"By providing this support, people can feel confident about
staying in their own homes and can continue to live normally much
later on in life."
