You should apply for one of these if you are
thinking about moving to a privately rented property where you will
be claiming housing benefit.
A pre-tenancy determination (PTD) will help you to decide whether
you can afford the property before you make an agreement with the
landlord.
It tells you how much of your rent would be used to work out your
housing benefit.
However, this does not mean it will tell you how much housing
benefit you will get.
You can download and fill in our
pre-tenancy determination form, contact our
Customer Services
team who will send one out to you or pick one up from the Town
Hall in Weston-super-Mare.
You can ask for more than one PTD at a time if you are interested
in more than one property and will need to fill in details about
the property you would like to rent.
You prospective landlord will have to sign the form to say agree
to a PTD being made.
The form will be forwarded your details to a Government rent
officer who will value the property and send copies of his decision
to you, the landlord and ourselves usually within seven days.
If you are single and under 25 the amount of housing benefit you
can receive for private rented accommodation will be limited and
you are therefore advised to obtain a PTD prior to accepting any
tenancy. |
