The amount of benefit you receive is partly
dependent upon your amount of income.
This includes any money you have coming in from employment or
social security benefits.
In terms of employment, we look at the wages you earn after
deductions have been made for tax, National Insurance and half of
any money you contribute towards your pension.
However, this does not include the following amounts for the
following individuals or groups:
- The first £5 per week for single people
- The first £10 per week for couples
- The first £20 per week for disabled people
- The first £25 per week for single parents
You must send us proof of the money you earn so we can work out
your benefit.
Please ask your employer to fill in the earnings certificate at the
back of your claim form but if this is not possible you will have
to send us the following:
- If you are paid weekly - Your last five payslips
- If you are paid fortnightly - Your last three payslips
- If you are paid monthly - Your last two payslips
If you have just started work do not delay sending your form
back as we will let you know what information we need.
If you are self-employed please send us your most recent trading or
audited accounts or your last three months trading accounts but if
this is not possible contact us for further advice.
In terms of social security benefits, we do not count any of the
following against your benefits:
- Disability living allowance
- Attendance allowance
- Mobility allowance
- War widows pension
- War disablement pension
- The first £15 of any maintenance payments for dependant
children
However, we need to know if you receive any of these as you may
be entitled to more benefit. |
