The majority of benefit claimants within North
Somerset are honest but we have a responsibility to tackle those
who are not.
It is estimated that benefit fraud costs the country £2bn each
year.
A large percentage of this comes from the housing benefit system
which we are involved with and we are determined to deal with
it.
Some people see it as a victimless crime but it is not. When a
fraud is committed we are all victims and we all pay the price
through higher taxes and lower quality services.
Everyone would be better off in a world without fraud. However,
some people don't care about what is best for their community -
only what is best for themselves.
