The purpose of the
Appeals Service is to
deal with disputes you have with us about
benefit.
It will decide your appeal at a tribunal hearing where the purpose
is to decide whether we have made the correct decision about your
benefit.
The tribunal is made up of two people not connected to North
Somerset Council or Liberata and you can choose between an
oral hearing or a
paper hearing.
The tribunal can only look at the evidence, the law and your
circumstances at the time we made the decision you are appealing
against and it cannot look at changes of circumstances which
occurred after we made our decision.
If something changes after the decision against which you are
appealing which would affect your benefit you should report it
immediately.
Do not wait for the appeal hearing and contact us quoting the
details shown on your decision letter.
Remember, if the tribunal finds you have been receiving too much
money your benefit will be reduced.
