Self care can help you keep fit and healthy. Help you
understand how to take medicines, treat minor ailments and get help
when you need it.
What is Self Care?
Self care means:
- Looking after your health and your family's health
- Being fit, active and healthy in body and mind
- Eating well to nourish and care for your body
- Making the right lifestyle choices to reduce your risk of
developing some serious illness, such as heart disease, diabetes
and some forms of cancer
- Knowing how to take care of everyday illness
- Choosing treatments that suit you, based on reliable
information
- Feeling as well as you can - even if you have a long term
health problem
If you are interested in improving your health, managing a
health condition, eating better, getting more active or fitting in
regular relaxation, the College of Medicine can help.
The College now provides an
on-line self care
library. The library is an evidence based resource for
both the public and health professionals.
The pages are organised into four sections: an introduction
explaining about illness, plus browsable sections on 'making some
simple changes’ like diet, exercise and relaxation techniques,
buying something to try, and attending classes/visiting a
practitioner.
