Occupational therapy promotes and restores
independence, health and well-being to people of all ages.
Our occupational therapists are able to work with
individuals to build on their abilities to manage everyday
tasks.
Any North Somerset resident who has a permanent disability and
experiences practical difficulties which significantly affect their
ability to carry out personal care and practical tasks can apply
for this support.
We arrange help and care for the most vulnerable and frail people
in our community as a priority.
However, there are a limited number of occupational therapists and
resources which can means you may have to wait for help.
We also have a duty to provide the most cost-effective services to
meet your needs which may mean we cannot always provide the
services you would like.
However, we do provide the following services:
- Assessment of your and your carer's difficulties carrying
out everyday living tasks such as getting in and out of a chair or
on an off the toilet
- Advise on alternative methods of managing these activities
- Advise carers on moving and handling techniques such as
assisting someone in and out of bed
- The loan of essential equipment to help with day-to-day
living
- Help with minor adaptations to your home such as the
installation of grab and stair rails
There is no charge for one of our assessments and we will
explain to you how equipment and adaptations are funded.
A financial assessment is also required for some services and you
may have to contribute to all or part of the cost.
If you feel you need occupational therapy services in order to live
independently at home please contact our
Care Connect service.
If you prefer, you can ask someone else, such as a friend, relative
or GP to make contact for you.
Further information about our occupational therapy services are
explained in our downloadable
occupational therapy and
equipment and services leaflets.
