Strategy for Services for Disabled People with a Physical or Sensory Impairment

A Strategy for Disabled people with a physical or sensory impairment developing social care, housing and health services was produced by the North Somerset Physical and Sensory Impairment Partnership Board in October 2004.

This was the first strategy for this particular group of Disabled people in North Somerset. It described the services available to Disabled people and identified some priorities for action over the three years of the strategy.

The Partnership Board is one of a number of joint planning groups whose role is to advise on the development of social care, housing and health services.

Members include individual Disabled people, carers, voluntary organisations and representatives from social care, housing and health services.

The Partnership Board is reviewing the first strategy, and is starting on a consultation process on a new draft strategy.

Since the first strategy was produced a number of significant developments in national policy regarding Disable people with a physical or sensory impairment have been developed.

It would not be enough just to revise and update the first strategy. It is important to engage directly with Disabled people about care issues.

A consultation paper has been produced to give Disabled people, carers and organisations working with Disabled people the opportunity to influence the aims, principles and strategic objectives that will be the core of the new strategy.

If you have a visual impairment or disability and use a screen reader we have a text version of the consultation paper.

The consultation will run until Friday 13 June 2008. If you would like the consultation paper in hard copy, or in a different format, Braille, on audio tape, larger print or in a language other than English, please contact Abby Elias on 01934 426 038.

If you would like more information about the new strategy, the consultation process or the Partnership Board, then please contact Alun Davies or telephone 01275 884 033.
