We give you money in the form of a direct payment
so you can pay for your own care services.
If you are eligible you can use the money to pay for all or part
of your these services instead of us arranging them for you.
For example, you can use direct payments to employ your own
personal assistant or to purchase care from an independent
provider.
However, it cannot be used to purchase permanent residential or
nursing home care.
If you are one of the following groups direct payments may be an
option:
- Older people
- People with physical and sensory impairments
- People with learning difficulties
- People with mental health needs
- Parents of disabled children
- Young disabled people aged 16 and 17
- Carers aged 16 and over
However, the payments may not cover the entire cost of your care
and you may be required to contribute. A financial assessment is
carried out to decide how much this will be.
To apply for direct payments contact our
Care Connect service.
Alternatively, for further information on direct payments download
our
Direct Payment factsheet or contact the
Department of Health.
