We are responsible for developing and supporting a
range of out of school activities for disabled children and young
people.
This includes children up to and including the age 18 years with
our work compliant with the
Domiciliary Care Agencies
Regulations 2002 and Ofsted.
Our work includes the following responsibilities:
- Organising, promoting and developing special needs play schemes
in line with Ofsted, the Commission for Social Care
Inspection and other local and national good practice
guidelines and regulations
- Supervising personnel not directly employed by North Somerset
Council who run the play schemes
- Completing funding applications from a range of private and
public sector sources in order to maintain and develop the play
schemes
- The allocation and monitoring of play scheme and out-of-school
activity budgets
- Organising a programme of development, accreditation and
training for the disabled children's play scheme management, staff,
volunteers and buddies
- Providing inclusive play and leisure opportunities for disabled
children in community-based settings in partnership with our social
workers, SENCO, parents and the
voluntary sector
- Providing guidance and support to community-based out of school
projects
- Organising and participating in consultation with children,
young people, parents and professionals to seek their views on the
provision and development of out-of-school provision
- Identifying the training and information needs of pre-school
and out-of-school placement providers to improve accessibility and
promote inclusion for disabled children
- Working in partnership with our Disabled Children's Team, Day
Care Team, EYDCP, volunteer co-ordinators, the
Children's Fund and
local voluntary organisations to ensure effective delivery of
services to disabled children and their families.
- Working in partnership with our health colleagues to promote
and maintain medical and behaviour programmes
- Creating opportunities for disabled children to experience and
participate in a range of activities which may include day trips
and overnight stays
- Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the work of
projects
