Safeguarding adults from abuse

We are committed to protecting vulnerable adults within North Somerset from abuse.

A vulnerable adult is classed as anyone over 18 years in need of community care for a mental or physical disability or who is unable to take care of or protect themselves.

Abuse is defined as the spontaneous or pre-meditated mistreatment, violation or neglect of a person by an individual or group.

It can be a single incident or part of a repeated pattern with vulnerable adults at particular risk.

This abuse may be physical, sexual, emotional or even financial and can happen in any setting.

The vulnerable person may know the abuser as it might be a family member, friend, neighbour or a care worker.

If you are being abused or concerned about someone you know it is very important that you tell someone.

If you are in immediate danger you should contact the Police and for general guidance on who to contact please download our Do you know a vulnerable adult? factsheet.

Alternatively, for advice and help please contact Care Connect on 01275 888 801.

You do not have to give your name but it is helpful to give a name and contact number in case we need to reach you.

We may need to act on the information you provide and contact other relevant services.

If you need help talking about what has happened and want someone to advise please ask to speak to our Adult Protection Manager who will help you or try to find the most appropriate person or agency for your needs.
