START a short term assessment and reablement service
provided to adults who are experiencing a reduction in their daily
living skills, often as a result of ill-health or
injury.
The service is designed to help people to make the most of their
abilities and remain as independent as possible. The
service can be provided for up to a maximum of six weeks.
Specialist Services
START staff work closely with colleagues in both health and
social care services and are able to refer to the Intermediate Care
Service where a need is identified for rehabilitation specialists
to be involved in the short term assessment and reablement
programme.
Who can receive this service
Adults aged 18 and over and residents of North Somerset.
The majority of services users are older people but the service
also supports younger disabled adults, people with sensory
impairment, people who are diagnosed with HIV or AIDS, people with
a learning disability and people with mental health needs.
Charging Policy
You will be charged following a financial assessment. The
charges will be in line with our
Home Care Charging Policy. New START
service users will not be charged for more than eight
hours per week, even if they receive more than eight hours of
care, up to a maximum of six weeks.
START staff carry out a range of personal and domestic care. The
service is made up of the following staff:
- Care Organisers provide support and advice, regular
supervision, appraisals, observations to Senior Care
Assistants and Home Care Assistants. They
carry out initial risk assessments in your home and are
responsible for staffing rotas.
- Senior Care Assistants carry out the full range of home care
tasks as well as carrying out initial home risk assessments and
start of service visits.
- Home Care Assistants carry out the full range of home care
assistance as required.
All our staff are trained to NVQ standards. Qualified in
manual handling techniques and participate in staff training and
refresher programmes.
