Allegations

Our allegations procedure is for use by all organisations within North Somerset whose staff work with children.

It is used for dealing with allegations against those who work with children and covers both paid and unpaid staff.

It can also be used where there are concerns about the behaviour of a person who works with children.

The procedure is a Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) requirement under the statutory guidance section of its Working Together to Safeguard Children publication.

The procedure covers the following types of allegations where a person has:

  • Behaved in a way which has harmed or may have harmed a child or young person under the age of 18 years
  • Behaved toward a child or young person in away which indicates that they are unsuitable to work with children
  • Possibly committed a criminal offence against or related to a child or young person

For further information and details please download our Allegations flowchart and procedure document.

Our existing child protection procedures have not changed and if you have reason to believe a child is suffering or likely to suffer harm you should refer this to our Child Protection Team or the police.

For further information about our allegations procedure or to include contact details for your organisation within it please contact our  Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) on 01275 888 244.
