The North Somerset Safeguarding Children
Board (NSSCB) works to safeguard and promote local
child welfare.
Previously known as the Area Child
Protection Committee (ACPC), it aims to ensure every child
and young person within the district grows up free from abuse or
neglect.
It works with local organisations involved with children
and is made up of senior staff from the council, police, NHS,
voluntary groups and others who work with children.
The NSSCB works in partnership to protect
chidlren from harm and in line with this priority
carries out the following services and functions:
- Works for all children and young people whatever their
circumstances, particularly the most vulnerable and at risk of
harm, to try to ensure their safety, care and that they fulfil
their potential
- Ensures those who have been abused receive the help they need
to recover
- Ensures all organisations and the public are aware of their
responsibility to safeguard children
- Provides a framework for agencies to work together and provide
high-quality safeguarding services according to the law and best
practice
All of this work is guided by
national and local guidance much of it
carried out by smaller groups working on specific
areas.
The NSSCB meets four times a year
asking local organisations to report on what they are doing
to safeguard and promote child welfare and suggests how their
services might be
improved. |
