The current report is one of the last written by
the Area Child Protection Committee (ACPC).
The Government has replaced the ACPC with a new statutory Local
Safeguarding Board (LSB) called the
North Somerset
Safeguarding Children Board (NSSCB).
This was a recommendation of the
Laming Report from the
Victoria
Climbie Inquiry to strengthen the current child protection
network.
This reform will hopefully herald a new era where child
protection and the well-being of vulnerable children is given a
much higher priority both locally and nationally.
In the past year a lot of important inter-agency child
protection work has taken place in North Somerset.
This has come against the backdrop of a significant increase in
workload and in the numbers of children placed on the child
protection register.
However, whilst much has been achieved there remains a lot more
work to do.
