What are short breaks?

Short break care means giving a family a much-needed break for anything from a few hours, to an overnight stay or an occasional weekend.

Where do short breaks take place?

In the Family Link carer's home.

What types of disabilities do you deal with?

Physically disability, learning disability, sight, hearing adn speech impairment. The range of disability we cater for is very wide.

What is the age range?

Children up to 18 years old but the majority are between three and 15 years old.

Who can become a Family Link carer?

Anyone who has experience or a genuine interest in caring for people. No special qualifications are required but patience and understanding obviously help. However, if you should have some relevant working or voluntary experience let us know. We have a minimum age requirement of 21 for carers but there is no upper age limit provided you are fit and healthy.

Is there any training available?

Yes. This involves attending several meetings held at a venue in North Somerset - travel and childcare costs may be reimbursed. The training involves group discussions, videos and talks from guest speakers.

Is there any support after training?

Yes. We keep in contact with you through regular visits. Also you can contact us any time you need help, advice or just a chat about how things are going.

We will arrange to see you in your own home to discuss what you can offer in greater detail.

Is there any payment?

A session fee is paid to cover expenses.
