There are many different ways of fostering a child
within North Somerset.
They range from temporary to permanent solutions to finding
temporary homes for children who cannot live with their own
families due to circumstances beyond their immediate control.
But whatever your family circumstances there could be a type of
fostering which is right for you and the children who need your
help.
We offer the following types of fostering which you might be

return to their parents and caring for them until they are
grown-up
- Short-term - Providing a safe home for children of all ages
while plans are made for their return home or for a long-term
alternative such as adoption
- Respite care - Offering support to families in difficulties by
providing a regular weekend of holiday home for their children -
often for groups of brothers and sisters
-
Family Link- Providing regular breaks of a few hours of for the
weekend for children with disabilities
- Children at residential schools - Providing children at
boarding schools with a home for weekends or over holidays as well
as keeping in touch with them throughout the year
- Youth justice care - Providing care for young people in trouble
with the law and helping them take steps to change direction -
often over the short-term
- Single placement - Providing intensive care for one young
person with either very challenging behaviour or special needs due
to complex health problems or disabilities
- The youth justice care and single placement schemes are both
fee-paid to reflect the intensive nature of the
