Safe at home

Date: 27/10/2009

Safety at home will be the focus of two special events in Weston and Portishead next month.

Officers from North Somerset Council, Avon Fire and Rescue, Avon and Somerset Police, Age Concern, Liberata, Warm Front and the Pension Service will be joining forces to offer advice and safety tips to those attending.

The events will be held at North Somerset Museum on Thursday, 12 November and at Somerset Hall, Portishead on Thursday, 26 November. Both run from 10am to 4pm.

Free electric blanket testing will be available and tips on general home energy efficiency and safety will be included.

Some replacement electrical blankets will be available for those found to be unsafe thanks to the Electrical Safety Council.

Anyone who would like their blanket testing is asked to call 01934 634633 to book an appointment slot on either of the two days.

General home security advice including tips to avoid distraction burglaries and stop cold callers will also be available.

And benefit and pension experts will be on hand to help with any questions.
