As part of a nationwide initiative to get more children
and young people taking part in sport, a Young Person's Key
(YPK) programme of term time sports activities has been organised
for young people who want to be more active.
The three year national programme will enable 900,000 more 11-19
year olds to choose from a vast range of sports including several
in which Team GB has excelled at the 2008 Olympics such as sailing
and canoeing, as well as less traditional sports like skiing and
inline hockey.
The programme will make a significant contribution to the
government's target of giving children and young people the
opportunity to do five hours of PE and sport a week at school
and in the community.
We are now looking to recruit new partners to deliver this
initiative.
As a group or organisation such as a school or youth, uniformed
or community group, you could identify a sport and we could assist
you to find a coach, or you may have a programme in mind but just
need the funding.
If you are a coach, sports club or provider you may choose to
run a programme for a group or organisation, where the cost is
either covered or subsidised by the funding, or you may wish to run
a programme independently and we can assist with the promotion and
advertising.
