We protect hedgerows across North
Somerset.
They form important habitats and corridors for wildlife.
Since 2005 the Biodiversity Action Grant scheme has funded
the creation of 4km of new species-rich hedgerows. These are
defined as containing five or more woody species per 30m. For more
information on managing hedgerows sympathetically for wildlife and
meeting legal obligations, please download our
good practice guide for hedgerow
management (pdf, Apr 11, 26KB).
We also deal with applications from landowners who wish to
remove hedgerows as formal consent is required for hedgerow removal
on field boundaries under the
Hedgerows
Regulations. If you wish to make an application then
please download
our Hedgerow Removal Notice form (pdf, Dec
10, 255KB) and
Guidance notes (pdf, Dec 10, 26KB).
