Many different options for enhancing Weston's seafront and
improving sea defences have been considered, including:
- Raise the promenade and sea wall by about three metres
Rejected as it would significantly restrict views
of the sea
- New Marine Lake or harbour between Knightstone and the Grand
Pier and improvements to existing sea wall
Rejected as the structure would be as high as
Knightstone Island and significantly restrict views of the sea,
would have a negative environmental impact, the marina would only
be effective in high tides and would cost over £100million to
build
- Temporary demountable defences erected during a flood
Rejected as not considered sufficient defence in
tidal areas
