Flint knapping, geophysical surveys, guided walks
and a guest appearance by TV archaeologist Mick Aston are just some
of the exciting activities taking place at Archaeology in the Park
on Sunday 13 July.
North Somerset Council and Weston-super-Mare Town Council will
be hosting Archaeology in the Park 2008 as part of National
Archaeology Week. The event will be held in Grove Park and the
Grove Suite in the Winter Gardens between 10.30am and 4pm. Entry is
free.
Activities will include:-
- Flint knapping demonstrations from renowned expert Karl
Lee
- A geophysical survey undertaken by the Young Archaeologists
Club
- Children's craft activities by the Play Forum
- Finds handling and other activities with North Somerset
Museum
- Guided walks around the archaeological hot spots of
Weston-super-Mare
- A chance to bring your finds along to be identified by an
expert from the Portable Antiquities scheme
- Displays by local archaeological and historical societies
- Meet and chat with North Somerset's Historic Environment
Champion, Cllr Robert Cleland

The event is being run in partnership with Weston-super-Mare
Town Council and North Somerset Museum. The town council provided
the event with a grant of £2,000.

will be an exciting day for all the family. I am eager to learn
from anyone with historical information about North Somerset and to
listen any concerns or issues people may have. I am here to help
