Despite rumours to the contrary the popular beach
at Weston-super-Mare will remain open as usual throughout this
summer.
As part of a £29million project to improve flood defences and
regenerate Weston-super-Mare's seafront, work will include closure
of no more than six (of the 20 or so) pedestrian beach access
points along a small section of the sea wall at the north end of
the beach in order to carry out the essential flood protection
works at the base of the wall.
Even here however access will be available with staff on hand to
keep beach users safe and to ensure that disruption is kept to a
minimum.
Pedestrians will also still be able to reach Knightstone Island,
Marine Lake and the tourism businesses at the far north end of the
seafront by walking underneath the Grand Pier and along the
Promenade. The many local water sports enthusiasts can continue to
use Knightstone Slipway to access the water.
During work on the project last summer new entertainment and
activities provided during closure of Marine Lake, proved popular
with residents and visitors and the area remained as busy as usual.
This summer classic-style children's rides, entertainment and
activities will draw people along the promenade to the enhanced
Marine Lake. |
