The European Commission has a number of
international youth schemes on offer.
They are aimed at giving young people the chance to
explore different cultures and broaden their horizons by travelling
to other countries.
The main programmes involved are as follows:
- Youth Exchanges - Involves exchanges between two or more
countries and are open to 15 to 25-year-olds. The exchanges last
for between six and 21 days. Help is on hand to identify partners
across Europe with funding available
- European Voluntary Service (EVS) -
Offers an exciting European work placement for 18 to 25-year-olds.
The placements provide an opportunity of a lifetime to embark on an
unforgettable cultural exchange with participants taking part in a
local development project. Projects cater for every interest and
last between six and 12 months. It costs nothing to travel and stay
with an allowance provided to cover daily expenses.
- Group Initiatives - The programme provides funding for groups
of at least four 15 to 25-year-olds to carry out a community
project. The main criteria is that the young people must be in
charge although youth workers can provide
support.
