Tourism is seen as a key industry for the future
of Somerset underpinning the local quality of life and the
conservation of its natural and cultural
assets.
To make this process work all those involved within the industry
must work together to make the region a truly successful tourist
destination.
As part of this process a draft tourism delivery plan for
Somerset and North Somerset has been drawn up on the back of
extensive local consultation.
The plan provides a way forward for tourism across Somerset and
sets out a five-year action plan from 2006 until 2010.
It takes into account the Regional Tourism Strategy for South
West England Towards 2015 which calls
for the creation of superior destination management arrangements
for the tourism.
The plan also takes account of the policies of the
South West of England
Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) and county and district
councils for economic development and tourism.
For an overview of the plan download the
Tourism in Somerset Delivery Plan Executive Summary or for the
full document download the
Tourism in Somerset Delivery Plan.
The plan was prepared for the Somerset Tourism Partnership by
independant consultants
The Tourism Company
following a review of the industry and widespread consultation over
the first half of 2006.
