Weston-super-Mare celebrated 200 years as a tourism
destination in 2010.
Weston-super-Mare’s first hotel, The Royal Hotel, opened its
doors to visitors in May 1810. Visitors came from Bath and Bristol
to sea-bathe and take the air, and tourism was born in what had
been a small fishing village on the Bristol Channel.
Throughout the 20th Century Weston was a popular seaside resort
for family holidays, drawing generations of loyal visitors to its
glorious sandy beaches.
