Go4Life is a North Somerset scheme which encourages and
supports people to get more healthy and active in their everyday
lives.
Working with local communities the team helps develop new and
exciting ways for people to get more involved with active
living.
Go4Life encourages anyone who does not take part in 30 minutes
of activity three times a week.
A series of gardening sessions for beginners gets underway in
Clevedon next month.
Research shows that gardening for 30-45 minutes most days of the
week has significant health benefits, such as decreasing the risk
of high blood pressure and diabetes, as well as contributing to
healthier bones, muscles and joints.
Gardening can also help rebuild a person’s strength after an
accident or illness, and can provide a purposeful activity for
someone coping with a difficult period in their life.
The six-week beginner gardening programme will enable you to
have a go at growing your own food, improve your own garden,
encourage wildlife and become more active all in a friendly,
informal and social environment.
During the six weeks you will learn about: soil, seed sowing,
germination, taking cuttings, planting out, pricking out, and
feeding crops, pests, diseases and weeds. Activities will include
preparing the ground, sowing, aftercare and maintenance.
Venue – Allotment site in Clevedon and moving to individual
garden if preferred and able to.
Date – Friday April 23 until Friday May 28
Time – 10am until 12 noon
Cost – Only £10 per session
