History from the Ancient Greeks to the Second World War
will be brought to life at North Somerset Museum during the school
holidays next week (15-19 February).
History Week puts a human face to the past when visitors to the
museum in Weston-super-Mare
can meet characters from times gone by, including Tudors, Romans
and Vikings.
It also gives people the opportunity to handle objects, try on
clothes and armour or just talk to the characters to find out more
about how our ancestors lived.
The week will include:
Monday 15 February - The Romans
Hail
Caesar! Roman soldiers, gladiators, games and toys.
Tuesday 16 February - Ancient
Greeks
Life in Ancient Greece with Spartan soldiers
and civilians.
Wednesday 17 February - The
Vikings
Children can take on the role of Vikings and
handle coins, jewellery, clothes, weapons, armour and much more
when The Vikings set up camp.
Thursday 18 February - The Tudors
Tudor
life comes alive with games, food and clothing. Display the hat of
honour and find out about the Great Chain of Being.
Friday 19 February - The Second World
War
Find out about life on the Home Front over 60
years ago. Blitz, bombs and bunkers! Back by popular demand.
"History Week is always extremely popular," said Cllr Peter
Bryant, executive member responsible for the museum service.
"The various groups really do bring the past to life. Their
tremendous enthusiasm and knowledge ensure the week is fascinating,
informative and, above all, great fun."
Normal admission prices to the museum apply, but all the
activities are free. No booking is necessary - just turn up on the
day, although children must be accompanied by an adult.
The museum in Burlington Street, Weston is open from 10am to
4.30pm, Monday to Saturday.
