Museum Services

As of 1 April 2011 the museum in North Somerset transferred to Weston Town Council.

Based in Burlington Street, Weston-super-Mare, the museum will be open Monday to Saturday as usual.  More details about the opening times, entrance fees, exhibitions and activities can all be found on the Town Council website.

Collections and curatorial service

The North Somerset Museum Collections that are not on permanent display at the museum have been relocated to the purpose built Somerset Heritage Centre near Taunton.  An agreement has been set up with Somerset County Council which will ensure the best care for these heritage items and provide the best conditions for their preservation.

Now that the museum reserve collections have been relocated (i.e. those not on permanent display at the museum) members of the public can arrange to see items by contacting Jane Hill at the Somerset Heritage Centre in Taunton by email or visiting their website. Alternatively you can call on the following numbers: Enquiries        01823 278805 (enquiries), 01823 337600 (appointments).

Local Studies

Local studies items that require specialist care and storage were also transferred to Somerset Heritage Centre for care by the Local Studies team there.  For enquiries about these items please contact Somerset Heritage Centre. Tel: 01823 278805 or email:  archives@somerset.gov.uk

Other Local Studies materials are still under the care of North Somerset Council and currently being stored at Weston Library.  These can be accessed by making a request at the library, and the intention is that they will be made available at the new library in the Town Hall in the dedicated Local Studies area.

Some other local studies materials such as copies of the Mercury, were retained at the museum for management by Weston Town Council and volunteers.
