We have free introductory sessions to the website Ancestry at Worle, Nailsea, The Campus, Clevedon and Portishead libraries, family histories have never been easier to track down.
Help is also on hand from the Weston-super-Mare Family History Society at Weston Library on the first and third Saturday of each month (except 20 September).
Information can also be found via the online library, which you can access from home. For example, announcements of births, weddings and court reports back to 1785 can be searched in the Times Digital Archive.
And for those who find a famous ancestor in their history more details can be dug up from the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography or Who’s Who, which details influential people from the past and present.
The North Somerset Studies library in Weston library is a treasure trove of local histories, including old photographs, newspapers, street directories and maps.
