Rhythm and rhyme

Visit your local library and get into the rhythm as we celebrate words and music during the National Year of Reading 2008.

This month is all about getting into the groove through poetry, lyrics and song.

Be inspired by delving into the writings of poets and musicians. Listen to the latest music releases on CD, from classical to rap, or watch musicals on DVD.

Reading poetry is a great way to relax and we have a wide choice of books of well loved poems for you to borrow.

Use our free computers to log on to poetry websites, such as the Poetry Archive for historical and contemporary poetry. Browse Oxford Reference Books Online to read Oxford Companion to Twentieth-Centuty Poetry and Oxford Dictionary of Rhymes.

Explore the world of poetry in the company of others by searching Clear as Mud for details of local poetry groups.

There are rhymes for children too so call in a pick up a rhyming picture book or join in at one of our Bookstart Rhymetimes.

Search Oxford Music Online to find biographies and discographies for bands, musicians and performers, as well as 3D illustrations of musical instruments and much more.

Local musical and theatre groups can borrow vocal scores and orchestral sets. Recent productions include Irving Berlin's Call Me Madam, Bach's St John's Passion and Gilbert and Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance.

All this and more is available at your local library.
