Times Digital Archive

Learn about 200 years of British and world history as reported by The Times newspaper.

Times Digital Archive is a complete facsimile copy of The Times newspaper from 1785 to 1985. All the text is fully indexed and searchable, so you can find:

  • headlines and articles
  • front pages
  • advertisements
  • photographs and illustrations
  • personal announcements such as births, marriages and obituaries
  • sports results
  • wartime casualty lists

You need to be a member of the library to use this service from home.

When you access the website from home you need to enter your library card number.

If you don't have internet access at home come and use our computers in your local library.

You can also access The Times from 1992 up to the present day using  UK Newsstand and contact our Enquiry Centre for 1986-1992 .

Our subscription to The British Library's 19th Century Newspapers online includes other national papers and regional papers such as The Bristol Mercury 1819-1900.  Search both The Times and 19th Century Newspapers at once by choosing Gale NewsVault.

Our libraries also have copies of printed newspapers.
