FAQs

How do I get a username and password to log on to the online library services from home?

When using some of our online library services from home you will need your library card number. Each website is different, but there will be a box to enter your library card number. This is sometimes under the username and password box. If you can not access our online library services from home please contact your local library who will be able to help you.

Why doesn't my library card work on the subscription website?

Have you:
Followed the link from our website www.n-somerset.gov.uk/onlinelibrary to get to the page to log in?
Typed your number in with no spaces between the numbers?
If it is one of the Oxford subscriptions or Who's Who, have you typed NSC before your card number?
If these don't help then please let us know so we can investigate. Many thanks.

Why is Ancestry Library Edition not available from home like the other online library services?

Ancestry suppliers do not offer libraries the option to give access from home. If you wish you can pay to get a personal subscription to Ancestry from home.

Why do I get a message on Times Digital Archive saying 'concurrent usage limit reached'?

Five people can use our subscription to Times Digital Archive at any one time. If five people are already logged in you will receive the message saying our usage limit has been reached. We recommend that you try again later. We regularly check how many people get shown this message and recently increased the number of users to improve the service.
