Online Information Library

We offer a range of free online information services which you can access in our libraries and from home.

If you are at home you will need your library card barcode number to type into each website with no spaces in between figures.

If you are using Oxford websites, UK Newsstand or Who's Who you will need to type NSC before your card number. You can also enter their competition.

We subscribe to the following services which you can access in the library and at home through the following links:

• Ancestry - Research family history with census records from 1841 until 1901. Only available in our libraries
• Clearasmud - Details of hundreds of clubs, societies and community groups in North Somerset
• Clipper audio books - free download versions of talking books
• CyberLibrary - Contains hundreds of links to useful websites
• Driving theory test pro - practice hazard perception and test
• Encyclopedia Britannica Online - Online version of the famous encyclopedia with a Junior version for five to 11-year-olds, a Student version and Adult version for over 18s 
• Enquire - 24-hour instant question and answer service
• Environment - eBooks to read online
• John Johnson Collection - printed ephemera from the eighteenth to twentieth century
• 19th Century British Library Newspapers - 48 newspapers representing 19th century British society.
• Times Digital Archive (1785 - 1985) - Contains more than 7 million articles from one of the world's oldest national newspapers
• Oxford Art Online - Information about and images of art and artists from Grove Art (type NSC before your card number)
• Oxford Music Online - Information about music and musicians including musical samples from Grove music (type NSC before your card number)
• Oxford Reference Online - Online access to the world's most trusted reference collection and more than 100 language and subject dictionaries and encyclopedia (type NSC before your card number)
• Oxford English Dictionary Online - At Home version - Complete Oxford English Dictionary online for access from home using library card number (type NSC before your card number)
• Oxford English Dictionary Online - In Library version - Complete Oxford English Dictionary online for access in our libraries
• Oxford Dictionary of National Biography - Contains 50,000 biographies of people who shaped the history of the British Isles and beyond (type NSC before your card number)
• Shakespeare - Arden eBooks to read online
• UK Newsstand - Database of local and national newspapers from the 1990s to the current day (type NSC before your card number)  
• Who's Who and Who was Who - Details of people of influence today and back to 1897. (type NSC before your card number)

You can also sign up, search, reserve and renew books, CDs and DVDs online if you have your library card number and PIN handy via the LibrariesWest website.
