FAQs about local library services

How much does it cost to join the library?

It is free to become a member of our libraries, to borrow books and use the computers. We do charge (pdf, Jan 11, 61KB) for some services and for items brought back late.

Can I use my library card at other libraries?

Yes you can use your card to borrow books and use computers in any library in LibrariesWest

When is my library open?

Opening times and other details are on the page about the library, we close for public holidays.

What is LibrariesWest?

Our libraries are in the LibrariesWest partnership which gives you many benefits. LibrariesWest is a partnership between Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset, Somerset and South Gloucestershire public library services.

Where can I return my books and other items?

You can return your books and other items to any library in the LibrariesWest area.

Can I book a computer?

You can book a computer in advance of your visit or you can drop in and wait for a computer to become available. You can book by asking a member of staff or by clicking on the book a computer icon before you log off your previous session.

Where is my nearest library?

If you know your postcode you can find your nearest library or mobile library stop in North Somerset using our interactive map.

What's on at the library?

Regular events are listed with other details about the library in the Your library section. Others will be our general list of Leisure events.

Have you got meeting rooms?

Yatton and Portishead have a meeting room you can hire. Other libraries may be available out of hours.

Do you have local and family history information?

Each library local history books and free access to Ancestry and British Library 19th Century Newspapers. Our largest collection is at Weston in the North Somerset Studies library which also has advice sessions from the Family History Society.

Are mobile phones allowed?

We ask you to use your mobile phone sensitively in our libraries and consider other users. In our quiet zones please keep your phones on silent and if you need to take a call please go to another area.
