Mind and body

Pick up a book from your local library and celebrate the links between reading and health as part of the National Year of Reading 2008.

Books and reading can help you learn about your mind and body. We stock a wide selection of books on topics such as sport, health, medicines and alternative therapies.

Your GP can 'prescribe' you a book relating to a health issue from a list recommended by the experts as part of the books on prescription scheme.

You can also read about your mind and body on health related websites chosen by us. Or use our Online Library to access Oxford Reference Books from home.

Reading can also relax and entertain you. Why not choose your next book to suit your mood.

Books can also help you improve your bond with your child.

Reading stories with your child will build important skills, as well as capture your child's interest in books. From their earliest days children enjoy listening to stories and looking at books.

Libraries are a great place to start as you can explore the range of children's books available.

Come along to our regular Children's story times and Rhymetime sessions for toddlers. Or join our Book Crawl.

You can also pick up your Bookstart pack from your local library if you haven't received one already.
