Library FAQs about lending services

Can I have my books out for longer?

Yes, if no one has requested them you can renew your loans. (There is a renewal limit of 20)

Can I return my books to a different library?

You can return your books to any library in the LibrariesWest area.

Can you borrow books from other libraries for me?

Yes if it is in stock in LibrariesWest. We can also ask other libraries including the British Library if they will lend books to us for you. Often they say yes and occasionally yes if it is used in the library. National libraries don't always agree to lend and sometimes take months to reply.

How can I reserve the book I want?

If you have your library card number and PIN you can reserve the books and other items you want using the LibrariesWest website. Alternatively contact your local library.

How do I find out if you have a particular book?

You can search our catalogue by author, title, or a keyword online at LibrariesWest. We are happy to help you search so please ask.

I want to read the next book in the series can you tell me what the title is?

We are happy to help. We use books (Adult Sequels) and websites (www.fantasticfiction.co.uk and www.childrensbooksequels.co.uk)

I have lost a library book what shall I do?

You can renew your book, to stop any overdue charges, while you look for it.

Do you accept book donations?

We accept some donations.

How many books can I borrow and for how long?

You can borrow up to 20 items on your ticket. Books are issued for three weeks (Except for reading group tickets)

Is there a Reading Group I can join?

There are a number of library reading groups and we can help you set up your own.

I have trouble reading ordinary print books have you got this book on tape?

An advanced search on our catalogue for the section SPOKEN WORD shows the tiles we can reserve. If you are registered blind or partially sighted we can also borrow alternative versions of titles from the Royal National Institute of Blind People Library.
