Newspapers

You can find news and stories from as far back as 1785 in newspapers in our libraries.

We have national and local newspapers in our libraries. If you are looking for a particular title and need to know how long we keep copies see our catalogue.

You can access the latest edition of newspapers from around the world online using our  computers at your local library

Your library card also gives you free access to newspaper archives at home through UK Newsstand, Times Digital Archive and 19th Century Newspapers. Our UK Newsstand (type NSC before your card number) online subscription includes:

  • Daily Mail / Mail on Sunday 1998 to the present

19th Century Newspapers includes the Bristol Mercury from 1819-1900.

We hold local newspapers, including the Weston Mercury on microfilm from 1855, and newspaper cuttings are available at our North Somerset Studies library. The Clevedon Mercury from 1863 is also on microfilm at  Clevedon Library.  

The British Library holds some of our local newspapers. Local stories may also be covered by papers held in  Bristol and Somerset.  

Our microform readerprinter in the North Somerset Studies library does digital and paper copies where copyright allows.
