Books on prescription

Your GP can prescribe a book relating to your health problem from a  list recommended by experts.

You can borrow these self help books from your local library.

Your GP will suggest the best book for you and give you a prescription with the details of the recommended title.

Take your prescription to your local library. We will help you find the book for you to borrow.

If the book is not available at your local library we will reserve it for you free of charge from another library.

Alternatively you can reserve the book online at the LibrariesWest website using your library card number and PIN. We will waive the online reservation fee when you bring your prescription to collect the book.

Subjects that can be prescribed to you include:

  • addiction
  • anger
  • anxiety and phobia
  • bereavement
  • depression
  • eating disorders
  • obsessions
  • relationships
  • self esteem
  • stress/panic/worry

A full list of books on prescription is available. All books can also be borrowed without a prescription.
