Go4Life activities

Several ongoing activities have been adopted under the Go4Life scheme.

Anyone who has not been active for some time can attend with the assurance that they will be supported and encouraged to return on a regular basis.

Use our interactive map to find any of the locations mentioned.

  • The Women's Running Network (WRN) is for women of any age, stage, shape or size. It introduces running to women in a safe, fun and social environment in the Weston-super-Mare, Clevedon and Backwell areas.
  • Rounders sessions take place at Wyvern Sports Centre, Weston-super-Mare on Wednesday evenings and Swiss Valley Sports Centre, Clevedon on Monday evenings. The emphasis is on fun and sociability but you can be as competitive as you like.
  • The North Somerset Strollers are part of the Walk to Health initiative, promoting walking to those who have not exercised for some time and would find any other walking groups too challenging. Health Walks are held in the Weston-super-Mare, Winscombe, Clevedon, Nailsea and Yatton areas.
  • Sequence Dancing is all about exercising whilst enjoying yourself, a good way to keep the mind and body active. For those aged 50+ who have previous dance experience, sessions are available in lots of locations across North Somerset including the Winter Gardens in Weston-super-Mare.
  • Beginner classes for Belly Dancing which aim to be fun and sociable as well structured, so that you can learn the basic moves and combinations, on Monday evenings at The Campus in Weston-super-Mare and Wednesday evenings at Yatton Junior School.
  • Karate lessons take place at Wyvern Sports Centre, Weston-super-Mare on Wednesday evenings.
  • Rising Sun Aikido will get you fitter, more supple and having fun at the same time. Beginners' sessions of this non-aggressive martial art take place on Thursday evenings at Wyvern Community School, Weston-super-Mare.
  • Hashing is a social jog/walk for all levels of fitness. Routes are typically four miles long and are laid by one of the group beforehand. Fitness is not a pre-requisite, sociability and friendship take priority. Sessions take place across North Somerset on Wednesday evenings.
  • Indoor Climbing, Ab and Back Class and Circuit Training are activites which are all suitable for beginners as you can go at your own pace with support from the instructor throughout. Circuit sessions are held on Thursday evenings, indoor climbing on Sunday afternoons and abs and back conditioning classes on Wednesday evenings all at our leisure centres.

Further information on all of these activities is available from the Go4Life team. You can also pick up a copy of the Go4Life Active Directory from your local library for more activities.
