Inclusive activity and sports groups

The following inclusive sports and activity groups take place in North Somerset:

  • Trampolining sessions are held at Scotch Horn Day Centre (Squash Court), Brockway, Nailsea on Tuesdays and Thursdays 10am-noon. The sessions include drinks. For further information contact Marcus Lovell on 01275 463 187.
  • A Relaxation/Aromatherapy group meets on Thursdays at Kenn Road Methodist Church (near Tescos) Clevedon 1.30pm-3.30pm. For further information telephone 01934 521 388 or 07798 840 449.
  • Yogacise classes take place on Tuesday mornings from 10.30am-noon at Quakers Hall, 15 Albert Road, Clevedon. Please bring a blanket and pillow. Contact Marcus Lovell on 01275 463 187 for more information.
  • Clevedon Gateway Club meets on Wednesday evenings 7.30pm-9.30pm at the YMCA, Marson Road, Clevedon. Contact Celia Witts on 01275 341 643.
  • Clevedon Canoe Club have sessions on Saturdays 10am-noon at Clevedon Marine Lake. All ages - all abilities. Contact Mike Perrott on 01275 856 127.
  • Clevedon Karate Kai club meets on Mondays in Yatton 7.30pm-8.30pm and Wednesdays and Fridays in Clevedon 7.30pm-8.30pm for ages 5 and upwards. All abilities. For further information contact Kevin Barrett on 01275 877 811.
  • The North Somerset Mencap Local Society hold Cool Summer Club sessions providing summer leisure activities for young adults 16-30 at the Methodist Church, Silver Street, Nailsea.   • Dance sessions are held by Jacqueline Fox School of Dance for all age groups from 4.45pm-5.30pm. For more details telephone 01934 522 724.
  • The Disabled Children's Playground is in Middle Lane, Kingston Seymour, near Clevedon and opens during daylight hours from Easter to Autumn. This is a purpose built playground provided by Yeo Valley Lions and provides a multi-sensory centre for all children who have special needs, in a totally secure environment for play and stimulation.   • Escape is held at Weston Youth Centre, Coleridge Road, Weston-super-Mare on Wednesdays from 6.30pm-9pm. Also Sunday Stars sessions from 1pm-4pm for ages 11 and above.   • Football sessions are held all year round on Mondays 6pm-7pm at Coleridge Road, Clevedon, near The Barn, for ages 16 and above. Contact Sally Wilcock on 07956 417 718 for more information.
  • The Palm Tree Club is an after-school club specifically for children with special needs aged 8-11 years. Organised by Gordano Valley Church for children living in the Portishead area, the club meets on Thursdays 3.30pm-5.30pm term time only.   • Portishead Youth Centre meets throughout the year on Mondays and Wednesdays 7pm-10pm, Tuesdays 6.45pm-9.45pm and Thursdays 7pm-9.30pm. The club is open to everyone and actively encourages young people with a learning disability. On the first and third Fridays of each month there is a youth club for special needs.   • Riding for the Disabled is based at Avon Riding Centre, Henbury, Bristol. There is a waiting list. Contact Gill Edwards on 01179 590 266.
  • The Riding for the Disabled Claverham and Winford group also has a waiting list. Contact Rita Lewis on 01934 832 558.
  • North Somerset Mencap Local Society has a Multi-Sports Club held at Nailsea Comprehensive School gym, Mizzymead Road on Thursdays from 7.15pm-8.30pm during term time only for ages 16-35. Refreshments are included in the cost. Limited transport is available, mainly from Weston-super-Mare and Clevedon. Contact Jenny Tolhurst on 01934 838 564.
  • A Multi-Sports Club for ages 7-11 is held at Nailsea Comprehensive School on Thursdays 4.15pm-5.45pm for all abilities. Contact Del Shayler on 07828 129 040 for further information.
  • Western Area Disability Judo is the premier club for players with special needs (both learning and physical difficulties). The club, which was formed in the early 1990s by disabled players, meets at Southville Centre, Beauley Road, Southville, Bristol on Thursdays 6.30pm-8pm for ages 8 and upwards.   • Asperger (Autism) Support Club for 13-18 year old young people with Asperger Syndrome, who attend mainstream education or who are taught at home and have little or no access to other play or leisure activities. The group, which is supported by the National Autistic Society, meets on Tuesdays 5.30pm-6.30pm at Nailsea Youth House, High Street, Nailsea.
