There are a large number of Houses in Multiple
Occupation (HMOs) across North Somerset. To ensure that council
resources are used efficiently the Private Rented Housing Team have
a proactive inspection programme to visit HMO's across North
Somerset.
This work involves identifying properties that are
classified as HMO's and prioritising them for inspection in the
future according to the potential risk they may pose to
occupiers.
The identified properties are assessment with regard to the
following factors:
- number of stories within a building
- number and type of separate units within a building
- standard of management and repair
- standard of facilities and fire precautions
Some properties with three ot more stories (including basements
and loft conversions) occupied by five or more unrelated people
shaire a bathroom or kitchen will need to be
licenced.
