The Housing Health and Safety Rating System
(HHSRS) is the new risk assessment procedure for residential
properties.
It replaced the Housing Fitness Regime in 2006 and also replaces
the Fitness Standard as an element of the Government's Decent Homes
Standard.
Overall it provides greater protection for tenants and visitors
against hazards in residential properties but private landlords and
managing agents will be the most affected by its assessments.
For further information about the HHSRS please visit the
Communities
and Local Government (CLG) website.
For general information please refer to the CLG's frequently
asked questions (FAQs) for
landlords
and the general public and
local
authority housing officers which explain the implications of
the HHSRS in full.
