How to claim

To claim benefit in North Somerset you need to send us a claim form.

Only one form is needed to claim for both housing and council tax benefit.

To claim now print out our benefit claim form (pdf, Apr 10, 2.5MB) using black ink writing clearly in capital letters.

Please fill in all relevant parts of the form but if you are unsure of anything look at our benefit claim form notes (pdf, Apr 10, 249KB) for advice.

Alternatively, call us on 01934 888 144 for assistance in completing the form.

Copies of the form - including large print, braille and translated versions - are also available from our housing and council tax benefit customer services team.

Completed forms should be returned to the Town Hall in person or to the following address:

If you are housebound we can visit you within 10 working days to complete your form and check your documentation.

Alternatively, if you are uncomfortable filling in forms book an appointment for us to do fill it in for you. Appointments are available between the hours of 8.45 am and 5.00 pm (Monday to Thursday) and 8.45 am and 4.30 pm (Friday). Coming soon appointments will be available btween the hours of 8.00 am and 6.00 pm. Please refer to the website for updates.

In a bid to crackdown on benefit fraud we are part of a central government initiative called the verification framework where we process claims in person.

It means new benefit claims can now be conducted in person via an appointment at the Town Hall.

At the appointment we ensure your application is complete and verify the information and documents you have provided.
