If you are already homeless or we cannot help you to
keep your home we will begin a homeless investigation.
During a homeless investigation we will consider whether
you have a priority need for accommodation.
You are considered to have a priority need if the following
apply to you or a member of your family:
- You are pregnant
- You have a dependent child under 16 years or aged 17 to 18
years and still at school
- You are vulnerable as a result of institutionalisation - This
could include those who have spent time in care, the armed forces
or prison
- You are 16 or 17 years
- Vulnerable as a result of a physical or mental disability, old
age or another special reason
- Homeless due to a fire, flood or similar disaster
- Forced to leave home because of violence or abuse and are more
at risk than most people

If you are homeless but not in priority need we can offer you
advice on how to find accommodation.
This includes providing you with an information pack
containing the following:
- A list of local letting agents
- Temporary accommodation providers
- Direct access hostels in Bristol and Taunton - There are no
direct access hostels in North Somerset
- Supported housing schemes
- Local newspaper info
- Details of charitable organisations who may be able to offer
support, food and washing facilities
We can also refer you to the Woodspring Deposit Guarantee Board on

privately rented accommodation.
This is available if you have lived in the area for at
least six months and are eligible for the scheme.
